Our story
Goa has a distinctive sporting identity shaped by generations of athletes, coaches, clubs, associations, institutions and communities.
From grassroots participation to national and international competition, Goan athletes have carried the name of the state onto major sporting stages.
We are part of that continuing journey. We connect Goa’s sporting community with the wider Olympic movement, and we enter and support the state at major multi-sport competitions.
The wider Olympic movement in India has its roots in the Indian Olympic Games, first held at Lahore in 1924. The Indian Olympic Association was established in 1927. The National Games subsequently evolved into India’s premier multi-sport competition, with the Olympic-format National Games beginning in 1985.
Goa and the National Games
Goa hosted the 37th National Games in 2023 — the first time the state had staged them. The Games brought athletes from across India to Goa and put the state’s sporting infrastructure and organisational capability in front of the country.
The Goa sports legacy
Goa’s sporting heritage is larger than its medal tally. It includes athletes who represented India, national champions, international competitors, coaches, officials, administrators, clubs, academies, volunteers, parents and institutions that have supported sport across generations.
The future — from Goa to the world
We are building a sustainable sporting ecosystem for Goa: better athlete identification, clearer development pathways, stronger coaching and sports science, better infrastructure, wider access to opportunity, and the partnerships and athlete support that hold it together.
The Olympic dream begins at a school ground, a village court, a swimming pool, a football field, a local club or a training hall. We build the pathways that carry it on from there.
